Root Canal Therapy Treatment Instructions

We would like to thank you for trusting us with your dental care. We know many patients can be apprehensive prior to root canal treatment and hope you had a good experience. To help insure long-term success for the root canal treatment, here is a list of recommendations to follow after leaving our office:

• The temporary filling placed in the tooth takes about 30-60 minutes to harden. Avoid chewing on the tooth for that amount of time. Please be careful chewing anything hard or sticky on that tooth until you can return to your general dentist for a permanent restoration.
• It is critically important you return to our office for completion of root canal treatment. The root canal is NOT finished yet, and it needs to be completed in order to seal off the roots and provide a good prognosis for the tooth.
• The tooth may be sore/tender afterwards, anywhere from a day or two up to a few weeks. If there is discomfort, we recommend taking Advil (Ibuprofen), and you can combine Tylenol (Acetaminophen) with it as well for extra pain relief.
• Please take any prescription medications that we have provided for you, as recommended by the doctor.
